WHAT IS IFFMAS?

Intercontinental Federation of Filipino Martial Arts Schools (IFFMAS) is a non-profit Philippine based organization founded on July 17, 2005 and finally formalized on August 26, 2006 by 18 martial arts organizations from Bacolod City, Bago City, Bayawan City, Iloilo City, and San Carlos City in Bacolod City to document, organize, preserve, publicize, and propagate the various Filipino Martial Arts, whether indigenous or foreign influenced, classical or eclectic, and to support other forms of non-Filipino Martial Arts (Eastern and Western) practiced by Filipinos and other races.

The founding members chose the name Intercontinental because it reflects the vision of the group of reaching out to and interacting with martial artists and organizations from other parts of the world in the near future. At least three of the founding organizations have individual members in the US right now.

The “Filipino Martial Arts” in the name can both refer to various forms of martial arts originating from the Philippines (Arnis/Escrima) practiced by Filipinos or foreigners in the Philippines and overseas and to martial arts, whether Filipino in origin or otherwise, that are being practiced in the different parts of the Philippines and abroad.

The general objectives of IFFMAS are as follows:

To research, document, organize, preserve, publicize, stimulate interest in, and propagate the various warrior arts of the Philippines (Filipino Martial Arts) as well as other Eastern and Western Martial Arts traditions;

To give technical and management support to its members, which may include seminars/workshops/instructorship courses, tournaments, demonstrations, fellowships, cross training, certification/rank advancement, research, etc.;

To elevate the Martial Arts, FMA in particular, as a legitimate body of knowledge;

To recognize legitimate martial artists who have dedicated themselves in the propagation of FMA and other arts;

To uphold the ethical and moral ideals of the Martial Arts and mutual respect and cooperation among its practitioners;

To create brotherhood among martial artists coming from different disciplines;

To train the next generation who will continue the various lineages;
